General Info

Even though it’s called an island, it’s actually just a pinnacle in the middle of the sea with little area above water. It’s noticeable with the lighthouse standing out. It is known as the smallest island in Thailand and the island that is furthest from the coast in the Gulf of Thailand. It takes up to 10 hours to travel from shore.

Being so far from the coast makes the water quite clear. It is also one of the areas with the healthiest hard corals in Thailand. From the diversity of life here, this place has been declared as a marine protected area in 2022.

Precautions

Since it is a remote island and takes a long time to get there, and there may be strong winds and waves, divers who are prone to seasickness should take seasickness medication before departing.

Interesting Marine Life

In addition to the healthy hard coral fields, there are also colorful soft corals and large sea fans in the deeper zone.

Most importantly, there are reports of extremely rare marine animals such as the hump-headed parrotfish, the guitarfish, and the shark ray. Whale sharks are known to visit regularly. As for rays, there are reports of manta rays and eagle rays. Both green turtles and hawksbill turtles also can be seen.

According to the six surveys by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, there were a total of 116 species of reef fishes, from 65 genera and 31 families.

Go There

Diving at Losin Island has to be by a liveaboard boat since it’s far from shore, mostly departing from Songkhla pier.

From Hat Yai Airport, it takes about 1 hour to the pier. If you travel by train, you can get off at Songkhla Train Station, which is less than 10 kilometers from the pier. If coming by bus, you can get off at the Songkhla Provincial Bus Terminal, which is in the same area.
